For this edition of QuickView: Profile, we are showcasing Aurora School from Melbourne, Australia.
Aurora is an innovative, purpose-built educational organization that provides optimal learning environments for Deaf and Deafblind children and their families.
Aurora is a progressive school that has consistently been an early adopter of innovative education technology. Led by Principal Bernadette (Berni) Coleman and ITC Manager Brad Myers, Aurora adopted Vivi after their previous EdTech solution reached end-of-life.
The school needed a solution that was scalable and capable of meeting their unique needs. They chose Vivi due to its versatility, ease of use and return on investment.
In addition to Vivi’s wireless screen mirroring capabilities, Aurora makes the most of the solution by utilizing its more unique features to deliver school-wide benefits.
- CEC Management – Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is an HDMI feature that allows you to schedule CEC-compatible displays to switch ON and OFF when you see fit via Vivi Central or the web console. So, instead of an Aurora School admin walking to each Vivi display (and there are a lot!) at the beginning and the end of the day to switch them on and off, CEC saves Aurora IT Admins time and money by automating the process.
- Digital Signage –Each week, Aurora broadcast a ‘sign of the week’ video via their Digital Signage Vivi-enabled displays. These short videos present information in the form of Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Not only is this a great way for Deaf and Deafblind students to receive the message, it also helps them brush up on their Auslan skills via active learning. And according to Aurora School ICT Manager, Brad Myers this is also a great way for students’ parents to learn Auslan nuances, along with their children!
- Emergency Broadcast –Given Aurora’s unique environment, a conventional siren-based emergency broadcast system is unable to adequately alert all students and staff. By implementing Vivi’s Emergency Broadcast system alongside their existing emergency sirens and lights, the school is able to push a visual alert into every classroom when an emergency response is needed.
“The ability to cast through Vivi has been a boon. It’s one of the things the staff here have really embraced. They are using it effectively in the classroom, and also in meetings to share their documents and to collaborate. Even when someone is taking minutes, they share them on the screen so we can all follow along. It’s really simple and has been adopted very quickly.” Berni Coleman, Principal, Aurora School.
