Executive Summary
Faced with inconsistent tech setups, outdated desktops, and rising AV support demands, Randolph Township Schools found a smarter path forward. Vivi became the budget-friendly, feature-rich fix that replaced outdated hardware, empowered teachers, and unified the classroom experience—no matter the room or user.
The Challenge
Randolph Township Schools had a growing problem: a chaotic mix of devices, dongles, and display systems. Teachers were stuck troubleshooting tech instead of teaching.
“Every teacher had Mac, PC… and every now and again I have someone show up with a Linux laptop… all these different devices that needed different dongles and different attachments. How do we get it to work on this projector, and it doesn’t work on that projector?” — Peter Emmel, Director of Technology
Meanwhile, expensive classroom desktops were growing obsolete as the district moved to a 1:1 device program—but teachers still needed a way to present and multitask without tethering their laptops.
The Solution
The journey began with signage.
“We were very much focused on digital signage… All the solutions we were looking at were just overly complex. I was inheriting a new job by choosing them. Vivi made it so easy, I could hand it off to the high school team and not have to do anything aside from get it up and running.”
Then came the classroom revolution.
“Very quickly we realized this would provide a lot of additional problem solves… removing barriers to using our projectors and our various display systems.”
Instead of investing in new desktops, the district deployed Vivi to every classroom—replacing outdated hardware, simplifying connectivity, and supporting flexible instruction.
The Impact
Cost-Efficient Modernization
Better on Budget: Phased out desktops in every classroom.
“There is obviously an annual cost for Vivi, but it was less than what it would take to replace a classroom desktop every 4 to 5 years—so considerably less.”
Smarter on Savings: Eliminated dongle drama with Vivi’s wireless guest codes
“Our high school was going through dozens of dongles every month… With Vivi’s guest codes, we stopped bleeding money.”
Teacher Empowerment
Instructional flexibility skyrocketed.
“We redesigned six science rooms without a single front-of-room setup… Teachers now have students running their own lab tables and sharing their work—it’s completely changed the learning model.
Gym teachers became unexpected tech leaders.
“Within the first two or three times of using it… he found the timer. That was game-changing for him.”
And even the skeptics converted.
Some teachers initially resisted the change—threatening to ignore Vivi entirely.
“We had one or two that said, ‘I’m going to unplug it and use my own thing.’ None of them actually did.”
Why? Because once they tried Vivi, the resistance disappeared.
“The minute they used it, they stopped complaining because they realized… it was designed for them, and they can feel that in just the layout and the operation of the product.”
And soon, the challenge wasn’t convincing teachers to use Vivi—it was keeping up with demand.
“Most of the teachers in that building are upset that I didn’t have them first on my list.”
“By the end of the conversation it was, ‘How do I get that? I want that.’”
Consistency & Simplicity
Every set up in every building now works the same way.
“When you see the Vivi splash screen and the four-digit code, people know exactly what to do. I open Vivi, I connect. That’s it.”
It’s also a game-changer for guests.
“To give a guest access to a projector without a dongle is nearly impossible… With Vivi, it’s a code. That’s it.”
IT Efficiency
Vivi Central helped Peter’s lean IT team manage it all with ease
“Firmware updating… easy. Mass changing features and settings… very helpful. My technicians can now work directly with Vivi support via Vivi Central.”
Unified Communication & Student Connection
Signage strategy improved punctuality.
“There’s a timer that shows: ‘You’ve got 3 minutes until you’re late.’”
Wellness content, announcements, club signups, and cafeteria menus—expanded access and student visibility.
“We partner with athletics, food services, counseling… even our parent groups bought displays to get Vivi signage in more places.”
Live morning announcements are next.
“One of our elementary principals literally started feverishly writing when I mentioned it.”
